Split bill calculator
A calculator divides the bill. It doesn’t split it.
Type in £187.40, divide by six, done. Except Sam had the steak, Jo only had a lemonade, and three of you shared the nachos. Dividing evenly is quick, but somebody always pays for someone else’s dinner.
Owecrew does the part a calculator can’t: it reads the receipt, and everyone taps what they had. The maths does itself.
Where a split bill calculator falls short
- It only knows the total. To split fairly, someone still has to go down the receipt asking “whose was the halloumi?” and add it all up.
- Shared plates get messy. Three people shared the nachos, everyone shared the wine, one person didn’t drink. That’s a spreadsheet, not a sum.
- Service charge is a second calculation. 12.5% on top of uneven orders means more maths per person.
- It forgets. The number lives on one phone. Whoever paid then has to message everyone and chase them later.
- It doesn’t net it out. If you paid for dinner and Sam paid for the taxi, a calculator won’t tell you that Sam just owes you £8.
How Owecrew does it instead
1. Snap the receipt
Take a photo, or pick one you’ve already taken. Every line, price and quantity is read in, so nobody types anything.
2. Share the link or QR
Drop the link in the group chat, or let everyone scan the QR code on your phone across the table. It opens in their browser. No app, no sign-up.
3. Everyone taps what they had
Shared items split between whoever had them, service is spread across the table, and everyone sees their own total straight away. Across a whole night or a whole trip, Owecrew works out the fewest payments to settle up.

When a calculator is fine
Two of you, two coffees, same price? Just halve it. A calculator is perfect when everyone had the same thing. Owecrew is for everything else: the mixed table, the round that one person didn’t drink, the weekend where five different people paid for different things.
More on getting it right: how to split a restaurant bill fairly.
FAQ
Is Owecrew free?+
Yes. Scanning the receipt, sharing the link, tapping what you had and settling up are free, with no ads and no daily limits.
Does everyone need to download something?+
No. Only the person with the receipt opens Owecrew. Everyone else taps a link or scans a QR code and it opens in their browser.
What if we just want to split it evenly?+
Mark the items as shared and Owecrew splits them evenly, same as a calculator. You can mix the two: split the wine evenly, claim the mains.
How does service charge get split?+
It’s spread across the people at the table, so nobody has to work out 12.5% of their own order.
